Pros:
8 oz Size
-Makes enough popcorn for 3 to 4 people. Using 8oz popcorn packs, it makes awesome popcorn, and a lot of it.
Features
-I like the heating element underneath to keep the popcorn hot, not sure if this is a standard feature, but I like it. The old maid drawer is pretty big.
Looks
-I like the skyline look on the glass. The black on top matches the stainless steel.
Cons:
Steel
-The Metal seems a little flimsy, and it was delivered with bent metal right where the old maid drawer is, but that was fixed with a pliers. The pin to keep the kennel in place had one hole drilled bad. The flip out bottom door is also thin and flimsy.
Looks
-The metal "vent" on top is just paint, and the icons for the switches are funky and unpolished.
Glass
-One of the doors was not straight. I tried to fix it my adjusting the hinges, but nothing helped. The one is good, but the other one is offset from the other and is harder to close than the good one.
Overall:
It works well, looks good, but it seems a little flimsy and the door problem made it lose a few points. The entire machine was packaged well, with no assembly. It did take about 5 days to ship, but it got to my house in 2 days. If you do not use premeasured packets with this machine, make sure you use atleast 1 TBSP of oil per 1/2 cup of popcorn. The manual says to use only 1 TBSP, but a cup of popcorn will not pop well with only that much. The door does say the correct amount. The scoop that comes with it is kind of small, but it works. I would recommend this machine to people who want a 8 oz popcorn popper.

The unit is small enough to fit comfortably on a counter or tabletop. The internal kettle, lower tray, and "unpopped kernel drawer" all remove for easy cleaning, and I find that rinsing with hot water is enough to give them a quick clean.
My only complaint is that the kettle is a bit on the small side. As such, when the corn starts popping, the kettle fills with popped corn very quickly and starts spilling out both sides into the lower chamber, and takes a lot of the unpopped kernels with it. I bought a box of the 6 oz. pre-packaged oil/popcorn kits, and these clearly have too much corn for this machine. Next time, I will buy the 4 oz kits.
Overall, great product!

(More customer reviews)The price was right on this machine and it was the 8 oz kettle even. I was surprised at how small it was when I got it though. I was thinking it was going to be a little larger actually. The graphics are not the same as what is pictured either. I was a little disapointed by that. But it doesn't affect the function, so it really isn't that big of a deal. The only thing I can say for advice is, if you are thinking about one that is a little larger size go for that. What I noticed is being the machine is so small the oil splatters all over the inside glass. And the popcorn and kernels will come flying out of the door space when you are popping. That is rather annoying. We did have to adjust the bracket that holds the kettle also. It would barely rotate when we first assembled it. Other than that the all glass case is nice, instead of some that I have seen have the plastic doors. Once I figure out something to fix the flying poporn out of the machine I think it will be a great addition to our bar!

Whirley Pop Sweet & Easy Snack Machine Review

(More customer reviews)I've had this popcorn popper now for about 45 days. I wanted to wait until I'd really used it to provide some feedback. We've owned several Whirleypop popcorn poppers over the years and until the last several have been very happy. Two years ago my daughter moved into an apartment and we gave her the "old" Whirleypop and we bought a new one. The new one lasted about a year before the plastic gears split and fell apart. Hers by the way is still working. As background, we have popcorn once or twice a week, but on some occassions, like a long car trip, I'll make several batches in a row to take with us.
I was excited when I saw that this new version was available since it seemed to address the old problems - the direct drive shaft looked foolproof. So what are my disappointments? The venting on the top of this corn popper is not well designed. There are only two small vents. This leads to a large build up (or retention) of steam in the popper and impacts the popcorn - making it tougher and chewy. When you go to open the lid after popping, there is no way to do it with out the pent up steam burning your fingers and hand. I am now using a fork to open the lid to let the steam escape before opening the lid. While I have never had burnt popcorn in the old version, in this version I will get one or two badly burned pieces. Not a huge problem, but it doesn't help with the taste. There are also orphans which I never had with the old version. Again, not a lot, but certainly far more than the old version. I love to pop the very small hybrid popcorn, and while that worked in the old version, this version has problems. We have a gas stove and while the old version never looked burnt or burnished, this was looks bad after the first few uses. Finally, the knob on top of the direct drive stirrer has a small piece at the top that screws on to hold the knob in place. It keeps falling off - into the gas stove top.
There are pros - the direct drive is a huge "improvement" (this was the original design by the way). The handle connected to the pot rather than the lid is great. The system in how the lid connects to the pot is much improved. The system where the lid folds back to open and then connect to the direct drive to stay open is a good idea.
In my mind the two flaws that if corrected would make this perfect is (1) add three to four more vents on the top of the lid, and (2) use a flexible paddle system rather than the wire system for the stirring system within the pot.

We used Orville Redenbacher popping oil along with their kernels and within 3 minutes, our house was filled with the wonderful scent of movie style popcorn. The steam hits the glass and scent is carried away throughout your house.
It only accepts 1/4 cup of kernels at a time, so it does take a few sessions to really fill up the box...if that is what you are looking for.
The only downside we've noticed is that a lot of kernels come flying out of the kettle. Not sure why but we lose a very good portion of them when we pop.

We never had any problems with soggy popcorn, perhaps because we remove the thin plastic lid from the top while it is popping. Which is something I think you are suppose to do otherwise you would get too much condensation built up inside the bowl. When it is done we attach the lid before we release the bowl from the hot plate and invert it. This product has been used heavily for 4 years and still works great. I am purchasing another one today for my daughter and her sorority house to enjoy.

(More customer reviews)Works great, especially with olive oil, but there are a couple of tricks to getting the most out of it. First, fill it only half way. Second, if you twist the top after each use to release the pressure you can avoid clogging problems. My first one lasted only a year or so because I had not learned that 'releasing the pressure' trick and the nozzle got irreparably clogged. Even hot soapy water didn't fix the problem. A chef friend of mine told me how to avoid the trouble. Since then, the replacement has been going strong for over two years now. Nice even spray with no clogging. Great gadget. I use it all the time!
